powers.gareth is the guardian of the forest. a normal kalon couldn’t protect it, and thus gar has been given a number of powers to help him do his job. but he is only a guardian, his powers are only meant for one reason, and so they’ve been limited to only what he needs.

his main three powers include:
healingthe ability to repair the damage of any living entity, be it plant or animal. as long as the creature is still alive, as injured as they may be, gareth can bring them back to full capacity, granted he has the energy for it.
curingsimilar to healing, this ability brings a plant or animal back to health. however, healing refers to physical injuries, while curing is used to rid creatures of diseases.

growththis may give a minimal boost to the development of an animal, but it more so affects plants. almost like speeding up its time, gareth can make a sprout transform into a full flower in mere seconds. this is mainly used in the case that the plant is having a hard time growing on its own; once matured, many plants will be strong enough to hold their own ground for awhile. larger plants, especially trees, are harder to grow, but over the course of a few days, gareth can usually at least get them to a stable state in their lives.

all of these powers require great energy, and are only used in dire situations. although many singular plants or animals don’t particularly matter in the grand scheme of things, gar likes to save them anyway - a life is a life. but these powers have come in especially helpful in war and outbreaks of disease, when there are many creatures/plants ill or injured.
other powers he possesses are meant to keep intruders out, such as:
sleepthis puts to sleep any creature in a mere instant. spores that carrot produces are used to do so. mostly used on trespassers, this allows for gareth to carry kalons outside of the forest and leave them there. if they don’t get the hint, well - hopefully they aren’t so bad as to have to see the full force of these sleeping spores.

hypnosiswith a different sort of spores, gareth can influence a being to make their own exit. this isn’t true hypnosis; gar can’t control their every movement, only give them the thought of leaving - and doing so quickly.

because the effects of these two powers are caused by carrot’s spores, they aren’t as draining to gareth. new spores being produced makes gar mildly drowsy for a few days, but it isn’t hugely debilitating.
lastly, there is one other ability gareth possesses, which helps him understand the forest’s needs:
communication
gareth can speak to the flora and fauna of the forest. he can hear their playful banter, or their cries for help. he doesn’t speak back to them, nor will they necessarily understand him back anyway, but with this power, gareth knows all that is happening in the forest at any given moment.
this power takes almost no toll on gareth, which is fortunate considering it doesn’t quite “turn off.” gar has learned to tune out the voices - except in winter, when they’ve gone silent on their own.
