personality.gareth has long since been known as the "gentle giant," for an obvious explanation. he's a quiet guy, very peaceful and he cares a lot about wildlife. despite his size (which scares off a number of people), he's incredibly gentle. gar's a good person, as any guardian should be, though he's often mistaken to be pretty cold - this is due to him having less-than-stellar social skills (considering he's lived alone for hundreds of years). he gives a lot of blank stares and rarely knows what to say. he's kind of clueless to the world outside the forest, so to outsiders, gar can seem slow. of course, he's actually fairly intelligent, and very knowledgeable. he's not a good story teller, but he does have many, many stories if someone is willing to hear him through.

like the nightthe forest is loud and active during the day.
the forest is silent and still during the night. gareth is the night. he is a soft spoken kalon. it’s a given, for most of his days are spent with only plants and animals, so his voice is rarely used to communicate. when he does speak, his words are kept to little more than a whisper, and they come out slowly. like the moonlit forest, he is quiet. he is a guardian, a protector of life. he treads lightly, careful not to trample the flowers, or mushrooms, or ants. he isn’t one to become angry, never feeling his heart clench and bones stiffen. his stare is lost in the distance, his mind a gentle stream of thoughts. like the moonlit forest, he is peaceful. he is a far off figure, encased in shadows and mystery. he is the rustle in the silence, endlessly wandering. he fixes what is wrong, whether this be caring for a hurt creature or finding a way to remove a dangerous trespasser. like the moonlit forest, he can be terrifying - but he’s as harmless as you or i. |
seasonswhen the forest is in spring, it’s kind and loving.
when it is in summer, it’s warm and active. when it’s autumn, it’s peaceful and idle. when it’s winter, it’s cold and silent. gareth breathes the forest air, and as the leaves change colors, as the animals’ behavior shifts, as the weather drops or rises, gar changes too. his mood is nearly unaffected by life’s events, but with every day, as the forest makes the gradual slide from one season to the next, gar’s mood follows along. in the spring, he is just a little more caring. his footsteps are lighter than usual, because he dare not hurt the miniscule life below him. he pays more mind to the surrounding creatures, he stops to make sure that they are okay, and that their newborns are also well. his tone is less monotone, like there might really be emotion behind his words. in the spring, he feels more compassion and appreciation than he does anytime else. summer rolls around, and gareth is given a fuller outlook on life. he feels inspiration and motivation running through his veins. he’s friendlier to passerby - perhaps he is still distant, but he tries to appear more pleasant than he usually does with his piercing blank stares. he moves around more often, he explores as much of the forest as he can in one season - he never discovers all that can be found, but there will always be another summer. when autumn is just around the corner, he has grown tired. his bones are aching for a rest, and so he stops for a break, and for the rest of the time the leaves are bursting with fiery gradients, gareth doesn’t go elsewhere. he lays in the year’s remaining sun and naps the days away; when he’s awake, he listens to the forest’s sounds and his gaze brushes over the scenery. he feels a sense of serenity as the forest dies down, he feels calm. winter awakes suddenly, and immediately gar feels a loneliness creep in. the air is cold and crisp, and his attitude wanes, likes there isn’t all that much that truly matters. he becomes quiet - more quiet, so much so that his voice goes unused for the longest periods of time and when he tries to speak again, it’s forceful and awkward. but sometimes, when he awakes to a blanket of fresh, sparkling snow, there’s just a wisp of childlike wonder in him. |
